| Lessoco developed a CFL distribution project under CDM guidelines in Eritrea, located at the Horn of Africa. The project is designed to reduce Eritrea’s carbon emissions by more than 20,000 tCO2/year over a period of ten years. The respective electricity saving equals about 10% of the annual Eritrean power consumption. In phase 1 of the project a household survey to evaluate the energy saving and emission reduction potential has been conducted. The PDD was finalised and ready for the validation process in January 2010, when the project had to be suspended due to the political situation in Eritrea.
Lessoco has accomplished a representative
survey in Eritrea to identify the potential of a CFL project. In
cooperation with the Eritrean Ministry of Energy and Mines several
survey teams visited 723 household all over the country to ask the
people about their use of electric lighting and other use of energy.
